In the video with the white sweater...I had been waiting for her to arrive and talking with the 20 or so Chinese students at the flight college. It was a cruel day with 20 to 30 knot winds and gusts up to 50. The college stopped all training for students but I was hopeful. I knew her well from previous check rides. She had about 8000 hours and in that time had perfected the pilot sense of humour. When she came in, she walked up to me and loudly asked, "Are you scared?" I answered, "You bet I am scared lady." She then said,"That's fine, just remember I will be with you." Sternly adding, "Now let's go." I could only meekly add, "Yes mom." Brandon was cameraman, the shot where it all turns on its side is just his feeling it was necessary. Hard to see the turbulence but the updraft when I was about 20 feet in the air is a good one. In the night video, the check pilot kept making each of my 5 take offs tighter to the end of the runway. When I finally lined up on this one, I was still 300 feet in the air and only maybe 300 yards from the end of the runway. It shows one of the illusions experienced while night flying. even on video, it seems I am still 1000 feet or more, seeing the whole 3km runway makes this happen. Lots of pilots have driven nose-down into the asphalt from thinking they were higher than they were.
